Trey Anastasio Debuts Ten New Songs At Three-Night Denver Trio Run [Photos/Videos] (2024)

Trey Anastasio spent the weekend at Denver, CO’sMission Ballroom for a trio of Trey Anastasio Trio shows featuringPhish drummerJon Fishman andTrey Anastasio Band bassistDezron Douglas.

While Anastasio was already well acquainted with both of the trio’s other members—Fishman has been his Phish bandmate for 40 years, while Douglas joined up with Trey Anastasio Band in 2021—this marked the first run of shows for this particular lineup. Even Jon and Dezron have played a handful of gigs together thanks to a series of COVID-prompted personnel switch-ups during TAB’s fall 2021 tour.

Despite the familiarity between the band members, however, this novel trio’s efforts skewed predominantly toward the “new” throughout the weekend: Over the course of three shows, the Trey Anastasio Trio featuring Fish and Dez debuted ten new original songs and offered up the first public performances of three moreBeacon Jams-era tunes.

On Friday, fans witnessed the first-ever live performances of “Where They’ll Find Us”, “Perseid”, “Monsters”, “Oblivion”, “The Well”, and “Ether’s Edge” in addition to the first public rendition of “The Greater Good” (not played since its debut during the crowd-lessBeacon Jams on 10/16/20) and the first-ever “Halfway Home” outside the 2019 Ghosts of the Forest tour. The power trio also dug up Trey’s Shine number “Air Said To Me” for its first performance since 2006 and played “What’s Done” for the first time since 2/28/10.

On Saturday, Trey Anastasio and company added to the debut tally with “The Endless Dream”, “On Pillow Jets”, “Outside The Lines”, and “Machine” as well as the first non-Beacon Jams version ofLonely Trip track “If I Could See The World”. That momentum carried over into Sunday’s Mission Ballroom finale with the debuts of “Broken Into Pieces”, “Flying Blind”, “Valdise”, and “Splinters of Hail” along with the first reading ofLonely Trip‘s “Shaking Someone’s Outstretched Hand” in front of an in-person audience.
