Tafseer of Surah Yaseen Sharif

Surah Yaseen is the most recited and important Surah of the Holy Quran. It is the 36th chapter of the Quran and conferred on The Prophet Muhammad in Makkah Mukarrama. It is comprised of 83 verses and 5 ruku. It has 3,000 Arabic letters (Surah Yaseen Para 22 and 23). It is recommended to download the Surah Yaseen pdf file to recite it daily.

There are so many benefits of reading surah Yaseen and memorizing it, as enumerated by The Prophet (PBUH) on many occasions. This Surah describes the purpose of Islam and the blessings that Allah (SWT) granted humanity.

The main theme of Surah comprises the oneness of Allah (SWT) and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). People who are non-believers and disobedient to Allah (SWT) are warned about their wrong deeds.

On the other hand, those who believe in Allah (SWT) and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) have witnessed a fruitful future in the next world. Quran is the holy book of Allah (SWT) upon humanity through his Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

It is the last holy book, supporting and explaining previous holy books, i.e., The Torah, The Psalms and The Bible. It provides a complete guideline for people to live gracefully and respectfully.

It consists of 114 surahs, and each has its worth and covers different topics like social, political, economic, ethical values, etc., in detail by giving examples from the Prophet’s life. This Surah is the most recited Surah of the Holy Quran, likeSurah Rahman.

The word Yaseen is a combination of letters; Surah Yaseen meaning has yet to be yet to be revealed. Only Allah(SWT) knows the meaning of Yaseen. In these verses, Allah swears, by the holy Quran, granted by the Gracious and Honorable (Allah). The Prophet Muhammad has been addressed that you are among the messengers and on the right path.

This verse was bestowed because non-believers rumoured that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is neither a messenger by Allah(SWT) nor on the right path. The people of that region were divided into two groups: some were believers, and some were non-believers.

Allah (SWT) addressed the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to scare these people who are non-believers. Because no Prophet came to their forefathers and they were not scared, they did not know the right path. Indeed, the truth(The right path) has been disclosed to them, but they are non-believers who will never believe what you say to them.

Punishment has also been fixed for them. The main point is to conveythe message that these people are stubborn and inflexible and will not accept anything from you.

Allah (SWT) said in the next verse that due to their stubbornness, we have placed a burden on their necks; their faces will remain uplifted forever; this is a parable of punishment for their deeds. Another example would be that we have built a wall in front of them and from the backside. And we have covered them from the upper side.

These people (Non-believers) are so enveloped in this world that they will not comprehend anything. These people are not able to understand anything. Whether you scare them or not, they will not believe it.

Those who firmly believe in Allah(SWT) (without seeing him) will definitely believe in you. It would help if you instilled fear in those who regard your advice without any doubt. So tell them about the good news, the honour of forgiveness. In verse twelve, Allahﷻ says that we will recreate or give life to the dead on the day of judgment.

We are recording and documenting all their deeds in this world, whether they are the deeds they or the deeds they leave behind. They will be treated accordingly. In verse thirteen, Allah (SWT) narrates the story of a city (Antioch) where two messengers were sent. These two messengers, Yuhanna and Boolas, were sent by Prophet Jesus(A.S) to this city.

When they reached the city, they saw an older man named Habib Nijaar tending the goats. The older man asked them the reason for coming there. They both replied, “We are sent by Hazrat Jesus (A.S), and we are here to make you believe in one God and abandon the worship of false Gods.”

The older man was shocked and asked for a reason to believe in one God. He asked them, “What do you have to make me believe in this?” They replied, “We can heal the sick and restore the sight of blind people, even those who have been blind since birth.” The older man’s son had been suffering for some years. He demanded that if they could make his son healthy, he would abandon worshipping false God.

He called his son over there; they miraculously made his son’s health what it was before his illness. Habib Nijjaar, witnessing this miracle, renounced the worship of false Gods and spread this news.

Many others suffering from some disease came to them, and all were cured. Soon, this news reached the King of the city at that time. The King summoned both Messengers to his palace.

The King asked, Is there any God other than the gods we worship?” They both replied, “Yes, only one God created you and your gods.” The people who were present there showed their disbelief and said, “You are just liars, and there is not only one God.”

They replied, “Our God is aware of this, we have been sent to you by him. He is the ultimate God. This is our duty to convey his message to you, even if you are non-believers.”

The city’s people reacted strongly, threatening the messengers, saying, “We will annihilate both of you if you do not cease. We will inflict punishment upon you.” After all this resistance and hostility, the messengers said, “You will perish with your disbelief; you are unworthy of being guided toward the right path.”

Upon hearing this, The King became furious and ordered the people to capture them and pelt them with stones at them. Both messengers were injured and thrown into jail. At that moment, Habib Najjar, the older man who abandons the worship of false gods, emerges from the mountains shouting at the city’s people, urging them to cease their cruelty towards the messengers.

He affirmed to them that the messengers were on the right path and deserved to be respected. The people of the city became angry with that older man, too. They subjected him to such brutality that he died there. When he was dying, he was happy because he was on the right path.

At the time of departure, he preached to his people the importance of embracing the right path. He warned the people that there would come a time when no one would be willing to listen to them. He further conveyed that their gods, whom they worship, will be able to help them as they will feel helpless.

When Hazrat Jesus heard about it, he sent another messenger named Sham’oon to this city. Sham’oon ingeniously established good relations with the employees of the King’s palace. Through this, he managed to capture the attention of the King. After a few months, The King began to trust Sham and sought his counsel before making any decision.

When Sham’oon realized that the King had complete trust in him, he asked the King about those two imprisoned messengers. He called both messengers before the King and asked about their offence. The King said, “They both claimed that there is only one God and all other Gods are false”.

Sham’oon asked them about the miracles of their God. They said, “Our God is the only one; he can give life to the dead. He is the ultimate creator.” Hearing this, The King ordered one of his men to bring the body of a person who had died for seven days.

The dead body was brought before them, and the King challenged the messengers to bring the person back to life. The messengers prayed to God and asked for the dead person’s life. Soon, the dead person came to life.

Taking advantage of the moment, Sham’oon asked the King, “Can your Gods bring the dead person back to life?” The King had nothing left to claim or argue in response as he realized the limitations of his gods.

Sham’oon said to the King, “if your gods can not perform such a miracle then they are not worthy of being called gods. You should trust these messengers as they have proven themselves and demonstrated the power of their only one God.”

The King was inspired by what happened and started to trust in one God. By following the King, many other people in that city began to believe in one and only one God. Afterwards, no Prophet came to that city, and the nation vanished by the doom of God.

In the next verses of this Surah, Allah(SWT) expresses pity for those nations whom Prophets were sent, yet they made fun of them. Indeed, these people will be returned to us on the day of accountability and judgment. In this Surah, Allah (SWT) informed the Prophet (PBUH) about his blessings on the people of this universe.

Allah (SWT) has caused fruits to grow for humanity; they consume these fruits and grains. Allah (SWT) made this universe and granted the ability to the people to fulfil their needs; people can do anything according to their requirements; they have all those blessings in hand essential to living a happy life. The sun and the moon follow their paths and schedules.

Everything in this universe is systematically built just for the well-being of its creatures. Boats are there on which people float on the sea without sinking, yet if it’s Allah’s (SWT), those floating on the boats can be doomed in seconds.

When asked to worship the only God, they return to this command. They forget the blessings bestowed on them by the only God. Surely, these people are destined for condemnation and will face punishment on the day of judgment. When they are ordered to spend money or blessings on those in need, they start mocking the Muslims.

They respond by questioning why Allah (SWT) does not bestow that blessing upon the needy ones, as He is their creature. They taunted the Muslims, “When will the day of judgment actually come?”

O Prophet (PBUH), convey to them that soon, that day will come when they will get reimbursed according to their deeds. There will be the sound of a scream. All people, whether alive or deceased, will be removed from this world.

On that day, they will deeply regret what they did in the past. They will plead for forgiveness from Allah (SWT), weeping in sorrow, but they will not be forgiven. They will be ordered to dwell in hell due to their stubbornness in worldly life.

In the next verses, Allah (SWT) informed the Prophet; on the contrary, the people who followed you and adhered to what I conveyed to them would be granted paradise(Jannah). They will enjoy eternity with all blessings. As mentioned in the Quran, they will be bestowed with companions known as Hoors. They will have everything they desire and wish for.

It is also mentioned in this Surah that Allah (SWT) has revealed the consequences of the people’s deeds, whether they are on the right path or astray.

In the concluding verses, Allah (SWT) informed humanity about his magnificence, beauty, greatness, gorgeousness, and benevolence. Allah(SWT) knows everything happening in this world and is the ultimate authority. There is no escape, for in the end, all humans will be presented before him.
