Prostate Health: Why Men Avoid Discussing It | HoLEP Procedure Benefits (2025)

Over one-third of men would rather endure stressful situations than discuss prostate health, according to a new survey from Orlando Health. This reluctance can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment for conditions like an enlarged prostate, which affects approximately 60% of men by age 60. Symptoms such as urinary frequency, urgency, or difficulty urinating can signal a problem, especially if you find yourself getting up more than twice a night. While many men are hesitant to discuss these symptoms with their doctor, a new procedure called HoLEP (holmium laser enucleation of the prostate) offers a minimally invasive solution with minimal pain and a high success rate. This procedure, performed through the urethra, can help men resume their normal activities within a few weeks. Dr. Jay Amin, a urologist at Orlando Health, emphasizes the importance of addressing prostate health concerns and encourages men to discuss their symptoms with their doctor. The survey also highlights the impact of prostate enlargement on men's daily lives, with marathon runner Chris Golden sharing his experience of how the condition disrupted his hobby, work, sleep, and overall routine. By undergoing the HoLEP procedure, Chris was able to resume his normal activities without urgency, and he is now happy with the improvement in his urinary habits. The survey methodology involved an online poll conducted by Ipsos on the KnowledgePanel®, surveying 1,010 U.S. men ages 18 and older. The poll has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
