Hi Destiny, please tell us a little about you?

Hey I’m Dessyy! My real name is Destiny and I am a content creator, cosplayer and gamer from Ontario Canada! I love all things girly and pink and i love to be silly and absolutely ridiculous in my videos!

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Bubbly, sweet, workaholic

We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?

I have been streaming on Twitch for about 7 years and have been making YouTube videos for as long as I can remember. I finally got my “big break” in 2019 during the early stages of covid! That’s when I got on TikTok and my content started to explode!

How has this changed your life?

I’ve always wanted to be a creator, but I thought it would just be a dream. When I found TikTok I knew it was the perfect platform for what I love to do, silly, cute, weird videos! So I put myself out there and saw how much people loved my work. I have been working hard every day to build an awesome community and find like-minded people. It’s changed my life from a dream to a reality!

Who influenced you and why did you choose to be a content creator and a gamer?

I’ve always been influenced by other big creators. Ever since I was younger I loved to watch people on Youtube, no one specific stands out for me but I always would admire other creators, the work they do, and how they create a community and share their lives online. It just always seemed like so much fun to me.

Now let’s talk about Twitch and how big your name and exposure has grown over the last months. That’s amazing!

Thank you!! I have been streaming on Twitch for about 7 years now and I had my Twitch account since 2013. Growing up with 2 brothers I have always been into gaming but back then, gaming was a bit weird, especially being a girl. I would never be able to find friends to play with, which is why I started to stream. I wanted to find others who played the games I played and actually meet people with the same interests. When I first started I only streamed to about 10 people, which I was content with but of course I always had a dream to be a bigger and better streamer. Seeing the community I built with 10 made me want to double, triple, quadruple that and just make one huge epic community! Because of my TikTok fame, I started to cross promote my streams over to my Twitch, and from there I was able to get my average viewers up to over 100 and reach my goal of becoming a Twitch partner! I now have an amazing community and reach an average of over 150 viewers!

When did you decide to create your own channel?

I created it back in 2013. I started watching Twitch when it was first known as justin tv. I used to watch my brothers play videogames so it was just something I was used to and interested in. I loved being social online so the streaming community was where I could find people to play videogames with!

What is different from your account or style of playing vs other famous gamers?

I am known to talk a lot and build a close knit community. Some of my viewers laugh because my head is completely turned looking at chat while I am gaming and they are shocked that I am still somehow decent at the game!

How often do you release new content/play online?

I make new content on all my platforms daily and I stream 4 times a week.

How many hours a week do you dedicate to playing online?

I usually stream 3-4 hours at a time when I stream. So about 12-16 hours a week!

What is the most rewarding part of your work?

The community aspect. I previously worked in mental health and I feel like it still relates to the work I do today, which I find very rewarding. I’ve had many people tell me that the community I have built online has made them feel included and helped them through some of the toughest times in their lives. Being a friend and creating a space people can use and rely on to disconnect from the stress of life is something that is so rewarding to me.

As a popular gamer and influencer, you are followed by so many people. How do you feel about that pressure of always doing the right thing, and encouraging people to follow their dreams?

There is definitely a pressure to always do the right thing. I know I am only human and I too have feelings but also the pressure of never letting people down is something I still struggle with to this day. I try to be very transparent with my community. I don’t try to hide things because they are my friends and they deserve the truth! I know I am an example of following your dreams and it can be reality so I try to encourage people to follow their dreams but of course in a safe and realistic way. I am always open to sharing things that have helped me get where I am today but I never want people to take advice wrongfully and get stuck in a position that could be detrimental to their future. I also am always straight up with people. You MUST work hard and “no-life” this type of work, you must have a thick skull and not let the judgment of others get to you and you must work hard, even during the toughest of days.

Do you have a preference for certain types of games or do you have plans in maybe creating your own games?

I usually like to play massively multiplayer online games.I love to play fantasy as well as shooter games and I love the social aspect to games! I also really enjoy playing competitive games.

If you weren’t famous, what would you be up to right now?

I would probably still be working in Mental Health! I absolutely love helping others so definitely still in the mental health field as I have a degree in Child and Youth Care.

Tell us about Gloom-e-girl? And what is different from this vs. other e-gaming companies?

Gloom-e-girl was made by my best friends Lauren and Julia Burch. It is an all girl team where we make content, play games and all in all just have fun together all while trying to help each other grow! Gloom-e-girls talent has some of the top e-girl/gamer girl creators!

And about your company “Digital Kittens?”

Digital Kittens is an agency and team created by me to help other female creators in the field. I found that many agencies were run by men and run by those who don’t actually want to help the creator and instead want a quick buck. Being in a male dominated field, I decided to make a difference and create an agency for females by females. I am a creator who has learned the ins and outs of content creation and what has helped me grow so, I want to share that with like minded people and make a community of like minded female creators.

Where do you find the time for all this or how’s your daily routine?

I am a workaholic. 90% of my day is work and 10% is eating and sleeping! I do have a calendar to help organize my day as well as a bestfriend who I now have brought on as an assistant to help me stay on track!

What book should every entrepreneur read?

I am honestly not much of a reader, I do my research by finding inspiration. Look and read things that inspire you and make you feel that burning passion.

What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?

If you put your mind to it you can do it, if you have a plan you can make it happen and there isn’t just one spot up at the top.

What advice would you give to your younger self and why?

Be consistent and believe in yourself. For many years i’ve always had the dream and the itch to do what I love. I was always scared and always doubted myself. I wish I believed in myself more. But I am glad I eventually did!

How would your best friend describe you?

My best friend would say I am a fool and ALMOST too sweet. Sometimes this can be for the good and sometimes it can be for the bad. I am definitely a people pleaser which can help me in some aspects and defeat me in others. She is like my ying to my yang though and helps me overcome the obstacles.

If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?

“Being weird and making it into a career”

Because most of my content is weird, embarrassing, cringy and silly yet here I am! haha

What’s next for Dessyyc in 2023?

In 2023 I plan to take my online presence into the real world. I am trying to go to more conventions and meet more people. I really want to build my community from online into real life!

What is your favorite healthy food?

I love frozen mangos! They are healthy and feel like a sweet dessert!

And your favorite cheat food?

Pizza, its always so versatile!

How would you explain your fashion style?

It depends on the day! Some days I go full on egirl mode, and some days I am in sweat pants and a sweatshirt! I really flip flop

What is your own definition of happiness?

My definition about happiness is being around people you love, doing something you love and just feeling that stress free sense of bliss.

If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?

I want to meet all my friends I have met online! It is amazing how social media can bring people from all over the world together! I would love to one day meet everyone and say thank you and just give a big hug!

What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?

Wherever my family’s dream holiday is. I would love to take my family on a trip of their dreams and just spend quality time together!

Best advice ever given?

“Do what makes YOU happy”

Do you support any charity?

Once in a while I will do charity streams! I would like to incorporate this more often! My last charity stream was for Breast Cancer Awareness and we raised over $3000

Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?

I am taking it day by day. I see myself doing some sort of social media for a very long time. It may shift depending on the course of life but because my channels are about me, I think it can always work, its basically like hanging out with friends, you never stop!

What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?

This is a hard one.. I really love to sing to every song I know so its hard to pick just one! Haha! But I do love to listen to EDM ( electronic dance music) or classic rock!

What do you think of Social Media?

Social media is wonderful. It connects others from all over the world to each other and creates everlasting bonds that would never exist without it.
