Join the preloved fashion revolution

Vinted has fast become the go-to platform for buying and selling preloved items, offering people a more sustainable way to shop. Thanks to its easy-to-use app, you can quickly sell items online and connect with a community of buyers looking for second-hand fashion at affordable prices. Think luxury brands, high-street styles, vintage gems and even handmade creations.

But if you’ve not yet dabbled in apps like Vinted or simply want a few pointers to sell online faster, our handy checklist is here to help you on your preloved fashion journey.

1. Set up your Vinted account

Start by downloading the Vinted app, which is free and available on the App Store and Google Play. Or, you can sign up on the Vinted website. You then need to register and fill in your personal details. Buyers love to see a friendly face, so add a profile picture and write a short bio about yourself. You could even briefly talk about the types of items, brands and sizes that people might expect to find on your account.

2. Take high-quality photos

Before you get snapping, your items need to look the part. Iron out any creases and use a hanger or mannequin for a more polished look. Choose a setting with good, natural daylight, and don’t use flash or any filters over your images. You should also keep the background clean and free of clutter.

Next, take photos from multiple angles. You should always show the entire item in the first picture, before moving onto close-ups of any unique features. If your item has any flaws, you need to clearly photograph these too. And, if you’re selling something from a well-known brand, take close-up shots of the label and any logos and packaging to prove it’s authentic. Vinted might hide or delete your listing if you don’t do this.

3. Write detailed descriptions

Having detailed descriptions of your items can help more buyers find your listings, meaning your items could sell even faster. To get started, add a short title with specific details about the item to your listing for example, its brand, colour, type and size. Then, write a short, accurate description about the item, including things like how it fits, its measurements, materials and any alternations it might have had. You should also clearly describe any flaws, such as stains or rips. If you don’t mention them, buyers might want to cancel their order and return the item. Research best-selling items from other sellers to identify terms they’ve included in titles and descriptions, as these could indicate keywords users search for. Then include them in your own.

4. Get the price right

When setting your prices on Vinted, aim for a balance between making sales and getting a good deal. Buyers love finding affordable items, so keep your prices low and competitive to attract more interest. When you create your listing, Vinted will also show you what similar items sold for. This can help you choose the best price.

You can also use Vinted's pricing guide for help:

Item conditionSuggested price
New with tags or new without tags80%-60% of the retail price
Very good60%-40% of the retail price
Good or satisfactory40%-20% of the retail price

Setting a lower-than-average price will help you sell your items faster. If you’re selling items that don’t fit the current season (for example, if you’re listing summer clothes during winter), you might want to offer an extra discount to make sure that they sell. You can also offer bundle discounts, where buyers can get 10%, 20% or even £50% off if they buy multiple items from your Vinted account.

If you want to price your items a little higher than average, be prepared that they might not sell as fast. You can try highlighting the item’s quality and any unique features to help justify the higher price to potential buyers. Higher prices might encourage buyers to make offers, so stay flexible on pricing.

Remember, you can change your prices whenever you like. Simply edit your listing on the app or online.

5. Boost your listings

Want to get more eyes on your listings? Take advantage of Vinted’s promotional features. You could use ‘Wardrobe Spotlight’ to showcase multiple items or ‘Item Bump’ to push a specific listing to the top of search results. Although these features cost a bit more, it could be worth the investment for more exposure and faster sales.

You can also try promoting your preloved items to your friends and family, for free, on your personal social media accounts.

6. Talk to potential buyers

Even if the photos and description in your listing are spot on, you should still expect to get questions from potential buyers. They might ask what the item looks like on or want to know more about its condition, material and measurements. They could also ask to see more photos or to check how fast you can post the item, especially if they need it in a hurry. Be clear, friendly and honest when you reply. This can help build trust and boost buyers’ confidence in shopping from you. This could lead to quicker sales and positive reviews.

7. Pack and post

Once an item has sold, the buyer will usually cover shipping fees and choose their preferred delivery option from the carriers you’ve enabled in your postage settings. Costs depend on the parcel’s size, as well as yours and the buyer’s locations.

You’ll then get a confirmation email from Vinted with a link back to the app to arrange postage.

Label options

You can usually choose between:

  • Digital label: No printing needed. Simply scan the label on your phone at the designated drop-off pointand a physical label will be printed for you
  • Printable label: Download, print and securely attach it to your parcel. Make sure the barcode is fully visible, as even clear tape can interfere with scanning

Always check if your chosen drop-off point accepts digital labels or only printed ones.

Where to drop off your parcel

If the buyer has chosen:

  • Royal Mail: Drop off at any Post Office branch across the UK
  • Evri or DPD services: Drop off your parcel at selected Post Office branches
  • Other couriers: Not accepted at any Post Office branch

Once you’ve sent your item, you’ll get a printed receipt as proof of postage. You can track your parcel using the tracking number on your receipt or in the Vinted app.

You have five days to pack and send your item. If you miss this deadline, Vinted will cancel the order and refund the buyer.

If you're unable to send the item in time, you can ask the buyer to agree to an extension of three or five additional business days. The buyer can approve or decline your request.

Changing your postage options

To update your postage preferences:

  1. Go to your Vinted profile
  2. Tap ‘Settings’
  3. Select ‘Postage’

Here, you can enable or disable couriers based on your nearest drop-off points. Keep in mind that limiting your delivery options may impact sales.

Remember: You can drop off Royal Mail items at any Post Office branch. Evri and DPD services are only available at selected branches. If your local Post Office branch offers all three, you can choose them in your postage settings in the Vinted app and drop off all your parcels in one place.

8. Withdraw your earnings

Ready to enjoy that hard-earned cash? Once the buyer has received their item, they have two days to confirm that everything’s OK with their order. They can also raise an issue if something’s wrong with the item or delivery. If this happens, start a conversation with the buyer to find a solution. If needed, you can ask Vinted to step in and offer support.

If the buyer doesn’t confirm they’ve received their order but doesn’t report any issues in the two-day timeframe, Vinted will automatically complete the order for you.

Once everything checks out or any issues have been resolved, the order will be marked as completed. You’ll then see your earnings in your Vinted Balance within two days. From there, you can transfer your money to your bank account. This usually takes about five working days. Or, you can keep the funds in your Vinted Balance to easily spend on other preloved items on the platform.
