In a stunning display of determination, Belgian cyclist Florian Vermeersch finally claimed the rainbow jersey at the UCI World Gravel Championships on October 12, 2025. After two consecutive silver medals in 2023 and 2024, Vermeersch's relentless effort throughout the 180km race secured him the top spot on the podium.
The Race Unfolds
Vermeersch, along with his Belgian teammate Floris Van Tricht and Dutch rider Frits Biesterbos, broke away from the peloton early on, setting the stage for an exciting battle. With approximately 19km to go, Vermeersch unleashed a powerful uphill surge, leaving Biesterbos behind and sealing his victory with a 40-second lead.
"It's an incredible feeling," Vermeersch exclaimed. "I had a puncture early on, but I managed to get back into the race. I saw an opportunity and took it. From there, I knew I had to keep pushing."
