Delectable Gluten Free Au Jus Recipe - Breadish (1)

Au jus is a French term meaning “with the juice.” And if fancy French cooking terms make you feel nervous and unqualified, let me ease your mind. Au jus is actually a deliciously simple way to create meat dishes that are juicy and full of flavor. Plus it’s safe for people with both Celiac disease and gluten intolerance.

How to Use Au Jus Sauce

Ah, au jus sauce. It is the perfect finishing touch to many dishes. But what, exactly, is this flavorful liquid? And how do you use it?

Contrary to popular belief, au jus sauce is not just a fancy name for beef gravy. Au jus sauce is actually a very specific type of gravy made from the juices of roast beef. It’s traditionally served with roast beef sandwiches, but can also be used as a dipping sauce for other meats or as a flavorful addition to mashed potatoes or other dishes.

So how do you use au jus sauce? It’s simple! Just remember the three C’s: Classics, Creativity, and Caution.

Classics: When in doubt, always go with the classics. A good au jus should compliment, not mask, the flavor of your food. So if you’re serving roast beef sandwiches, pair them with a simple au jus made from beef broth and roasted beef juices. For extra flavor, add a bit of Worcestershire sauce or Dijon mustard.

Creativity: Want to get creative with your au jus? Go ahead! Try adding different herbs and spices to create a unique flavor profile. Some popular additions include rosemary, thyme, garlic, and onion. Just be sure not to go overboard – a little goes a long way when it comes to seasoning au jus sauce.

Caution: When using au jus sauce, beware of two things: salt and fat. Too much salt will make your sauce extra salty; too much fat will make it greasy and oily. When adding seasonings to your au jus, taste as you go and adjust accordingly. Also, be sure to skim any excess fat off the top before serving.

Now that you know how to use au jus sauce like a pro, go forth and enjoy!

Is Au Jus Gluten Free?

This is a question that has been plaguing the minds of many gluten-free diners.

Okay maybe it doesn’t plague your mind, but it is certainly nice to know 🙂

After all, what is au jus but beef stock thickened with flour? However, there is hope for those of us who can’t stomach gluten. While traditional au jus is made with flour, it is easy to swap out flour for gluten-free flour or cornstarch. And that is exactly what we are going to do below!

Can I Buy Gluten Free Au Jus Mix?

Well, this recipe is really really easy and will almost assuredly taste better than a mix (and I’m only a little biased), but there are gluten-free au jus mixes you can purchase both online and in stores.

As I am writing this, the options listed below are gluten free, but sometimes brands change their recipes. So, as always, be sure to check the ingredients list to make sure the mix is still gluten-free.
