Imagine a sea of mournful faces, all gathered to bid a final farewell to a music legend - the one and only Daddy Lumba. The news of his passing has sent shockwaves across Ghana, and now, his family and the planning committee have announced the details of his funeral rites, which promise to be a grand celebration of his life and legacy. But here's where it gets interesting: the committee has decided to transport Daddy Lumba's body by road from Accra to Kumasi, a move that's sparked a mix of emotions among fans and critics alike. And this is the part most people miss: the road procession is intentionally designed to reach a broader audience, allowing fans and loved ones in major towns along the route to pay their last respects. The decision to opt for a road procession instead of airlifting the body was made after thoughtful discussions with the family and the funeral committee, with the primary goal of ensuring that as many people as possible could participate in the farewell. As Collins Owusu Amankwah, the head of the planning committee, explained, 'By transporting the body by road, we can create a convoy that traverses major towns along the route, allowing fans and loved ones to come out and pay their last respects.' The road procession will pass through towns such as Suhum, Konongo, Ejisu, and Kumasi Akropong, giving residents a chance to witness the convoy and pay tribute as it passes by. Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, following a brief illness. He was 60 years old at the time of his passing, and his death has resonated deeply with fans across Ghana, sparking an outpouring of grief and condolences from public figures, including current and former presidents. The Creative Arts Agency, in collaboration with the Fosu family, organised a national candlelight vigil at Independence Square, which brought together countless supporters, united in their remembrance of Daddy Lumba's influential career and the impact he had on the Ghanaian music scene. Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo even paid a visit to the family, donating cash to the grieving family and emphasizing his desire to be involved in the funeral arrangements. But here's the question: do you think the decision to transport Daddy Lumba's body by road is a fitting tribute to his legacy, or do you think it's a logistical nightmare waiting to happen? Let us know in the comments. And as we prepare to say our final goodbyes to this music legend, we can't help but wonder: what's the best way to honour the memory of a man who brought so much joy and music to our lives? Is it through grand processions and ceremonies, or is it through simpler, more intimate gestures? The answer, much like Daddy Lumba's music, remains a mystery that's open to interpretation.
